AFX Fusion Systems

A robotic bead fusion system that has been scaled to meet the varying production demands of XRF laboratories.

The AFX4 system is based on the hugely successful 12 furnace fusion systems that, to date, have mass-produced millions of fused beads. This compact 4 furnace system better suits the requirements of the typical production laboratory.

It contains the same reliable components and the same proven methodology as the original high capacity systems that revolutionised large scale bead fusion preparation techniques. This technology is now accessible to a wider range of end users.

It is technology that distinctly surpasses any previous methodology and apparatus currently used in XRF laboratories around the world. It provides an efficient alternative from the low volume, manually demanding, batch processing methods currently adopted.

The AFX4 cell allows for manually filled crucibles to be introduced via a conveyor. The ADFX4 cell has the added benefit of automating the sample and flux dosing stage.

XRF Fusion Equipment

Essa Australia has engineered a single furnace XRF bead fusion machine that has the flexibility of being operated manually or easily incorporated into an automated laboratory environment. Fusion time is 9 minutes with a total cycle time of approximately 10-12 minutes per sample. Castable crucibles can be used which means no pouring is required. If normal crucibles are used then the fused sample must be poured into a mould. This can be done manually or automated using a small industrial robot. It would be, therefore, most efficient to incorporate several furnaces serviced by a single robot.

Bond Testwork Equipment

Internationally accepted mineral metallurgical standard test procedures to determine the physical properties of ores include the Bond ball mill work index and the Bond rod mill work index.

These are empirical indices determined by close circuit grindability tests developed by F.C.Bond in the mid 1930’s. They require a specific 305mm diameter x 305mm long (inside dimensions) horizontal axis ball mill without lifters operating at 70 rpm to perform grindabilities from 28 to 500 mesh and a 305mm diameter x 610mm long rod mill with a wave type liner operating at 46 rpm to perform grindabilities from 4 to 65 meshes.

Essa's ball and rod mills can be supplied as complying machines with the appropriate barrels and ball or rod charges. As with our standard range of ball and rod mills, the Essa bond index ball mill and bond index rod mill are supplied standard with a barrel and rotating yoke assembly and the electric motor drive mounted on a stand alone bench, funnel and screen. These machines will be of essentially the same physical arrangement and size as our standard range but with the customised features required to meet the Bond specifications.

Rotary Sample Collectors

An indexing carousel for the automatic collection and secure storage of samples being generated by a continuous sampling system.

Essa rotary sample collectors are essentially an electro-mechanically driven rotating carousel table carrying a number of removable sample receivers which are automatically indexed under the final discharge point of a continuous sampling system to collect and store the discharged sample/s. The inlet of all containers except that being immediately filled is kept sealed against moisture and dust loss or the ingress of foreign material. They are equally suitable for collecting free flowing solids or slurry. The sample collection containers are typically proprietary line polyethylene flasks which can be readily fitted to and removed from the carousel and can have screw lids fitted while being transported to the analytical laboratory. Stainless steel containers are an available option. The carousel is housed in a fabricated steel cabinet with easy access mesh frame doors which allow the unit to be viewed while operating. Safety switching is fitted to automatically disable the unit if any access door is opened, with the system automatically returning to its correct operating sequence when re-closed. The carousel can be indexed manually to bring any container to a convenient handling point.

Vezin Samplers

A circular path cross – stream sampler for primary or secondary sampling from a falling stream of slurry or free flowing solids

Essa Vezin sampler is a fully enclosed unit containing a rotating sample cutter that passes at constant speed through the falling stream of slurry or free flowing solids entering it. Correct cutter geometry design ensures radial cutter edges accurately cut a fixed portion of the stream. The portion of the stream sampled by the cutter is diverted to the customer’s sample collection system while the remainder passes through for continuous discharge.

One, two or four cutters can be fitted to ensure a representative sample is collected. The cutters and liners are readily replaceable in the field.

Essa Vezins are specifically designed to be minimum maintenance units.

Linear Cross Stream Samplers

State of the art technology for the primary and secondary sampling of falling streams from belt conveyors.

Essa are the Australian pioneers of a range of electric motor driven ball screw samplers that find particular application in collecting a representative samples from the material stream being discharged over the head pulley of a belt conveyor. These are setting new standards of performance and reliability that traditional chain, pneumatic and hydraulic drive samplers can find difficult to match.

The ball screw sampler maintains genuine uniform cutter speed through the falling stream; even when wear eventually occurs. The concept has been long term field proven in a broad range of medium to extra heavy applications.

The ball screw sampler is of simple yet rugged construction designed for maximum operational availability with low maintenance, in even the most arduous applications.

The electric motor driven ball screw mechanism produces a very rapid acceleration and deceleration time and results in a constant speed drive, which does not slow down when confronted with the falling stream be sampled. It’s combination of a powerful directly coupled electric motor and the huge mechanical advantage produced by the ball screw and nut assembly ensures that sampler performance conforms most closely to recommended sample theory.

The installation of the falling stream (linear) sampler at the discharge end of a belt conveyor is an internationally preferred method of sampling the material being carried by that belt conveyor. Various international standards have been established to assure the sampler performs in a manner which assures that the collected sample is truly representative. One of the most relevant requirements of these standards is the sampling cutter must travel back and forth through the falling stream at a uniform rate. Sampling equipment manufacturers have traditionally used chain, pneumatic or hydraulic drives to satisfy this requirement. Essa have been Australian pioneers in the use of this precision ground (square) screw thread and ball nut concept to drive falling stream samplers. This is a truly positive drive system, which by its very nature is obliged to travel through the falling stream at a uniform rate. It has none of the potential “elasticity” of pneumatics or hydraulics and will continue to operate at a uniform rate even when the mechanism eventually begins to wear. Essa’s simple, yet rugged, application of the concept assures maximum reliability and availability of the system.

Further specifications relating to the ball screw samplers can be obtained by downloading the Ball Screw Sampler Data Sheet below.

Essa also offers a full range of complementary sampling and sample size reduction equipment and a design through to commissioning service for complete sampling stations and systems.

LM2 Pulverising Mill

Vibratory mill for rapidly preparing up to 1.8kg of ore for mineral for analysis (with the extra power of a 2.2kW shaft drive)

The vibratory head of the model LM2 is driven by a universal shaft powered by vee-belts from a standard, stationary (non-vibrating) 2.2kW electric motor. This drive arrangement delivers more power to the grinding bowl and optimises motor life (because it is not exposed to direct vibration as happens in traditional integral vibratory motor driven mills). The mill also differs from traditional integral vibratory motor driven mills). The mill also differs from traditional mills because of it’s ability to be fitted with a unique 800cc, 1000cc or 2000cc single puck type grinding bowl in addition to any standard size of ring and roller grinding bowl.

The LM2 mill is used for pulverising ores, minerals, metallurgical samples, ceramics, soils, aggregates, chemicals and similar particulate. Typically, samples can be ground to 95% minus 75 micron in approximately 3 minutes depending upon their mass and physical characteristics.

The model LM2 is well suited to high volume mineral laboratories regularly preparing large samples in the unique Essa single puck style of bowl or to any laboratory remote from the specialised repair services typically required for integral vibratory motor driven mills.

Continuous Ring Mill

A special adaptation of the Ring Mill capable of processing larger batches of mineral sample on a continuous flow through basis.

The Essa continuous ring mill is selected for those applications where ring milling would be the preferred method of reducing a coarse sample to analytical fineness but the quantity to be milled is greater than the capacity of a standard ring mill. Ring milling is a preferred methodology for rapidly reducing coarse mineral, ore and similar particulate to the degree of fineness required for laboratory analytical procedures. The resulting sample is homogeneous and repeatability is excellent. Each batch is processed on a one-at-a time basis in a sealed bowl to minimise the possibility of contamination from the outside or the loss of sample as dust. The largest batch that can be prepared in a ring mill however is only approximately 5kg. When a need is seen to prepare larger samples, they can be processed in a standard ring mill in smaller batches on this one-at-a-time basis and then be recombined or the Labtech Essa Autobatch™ ring mill can be used to perform this same function on an automatic basis.

Micron Mill

Revolutionary New Milling Process

Essa Australia has developed a very large capacity (sample masses up to 10kg) Micron Mill that utilises a patented ® “ring and spigot” milling process. This innovative milling configuration provides rapid preparation of large samples with sample division at smaller particle sizes.

It has been principally designed as a large capacity coarse mill to achieve a 95% less than 250 micron product. This results in a significant improvement in quality of the final sample which will be more representative. The whole sample can be processed in one pass.

Use of the Micron Mill will greatly enhance the division process and allow smaller samples to be reliably split. It allows for larger samples to be taken at the drill rig to be prepared in the laboratory more efficiently. It may also eliminate the need to use a fine jaw crusher for primary crushing.

The Micron Mill allows for automated loading, discharge and cleaning.
